Has anyone else seen this yet? The most recent cover of Guns & Ammo magazine revealed a very sweet rethought custom 1911 by none other than… Smith & Wesson?

Don’t get me wrong, if you hang out around Haus of Guns long enough you’ll learn that I’m an uber fan of the 1911. It may even be my favorite hand cannon of all time, but I’ve never thought of them as a contender when it comes to a high quality production 1911. They rave about an individually fit trigger-per-frame precision upgrade, combat ported ejection chamber, chamfered muzzle on its target barrel, and the 1911SC even mimics Dan Wesson, Ed Brown, and Kimber in their rounded butt to provide comfort in carry.

Dick Metcalf, the effervescent lefty long-timer of Guns & Ammo raves about the new Series and it’s 2.5″ groups at 25 yards and even goes on to give the E-Series nicknames such as Elite, Elegant, Exceptional and E-volved. I guess time will tell whether or not this one will be player. Until I get my hands one and see for myself I’ll remain skeptical. But I guess if Taurus can build a decent budget-minded 1911, S&W shouldn’t be too hard pressed to come up with some semi-custom models of their own. At $1300 I hope they’ve got something special on their hands, or soon they’ll have clearance fodder for Cabelas’ Bargain Cave!

Anyone want to send me one for a review?!!
