EDC is a simple abbreviation of the term “EVERY DAY CARRY.”

What is Every Day Carry, you ask? Well it pretty much is what it sounds like. Whatever you feel is essential for you to be most prepared for any given situation at any moment and the things that you carry on your person based on that philosophy determines your EDC. The more popular and widely adopted the self-defense philosophy and CCW (carrying a concealed weapon) has become, the more the term “EDC” has been adopted as one of our own.

Some folks are raging intensives over this packing the contents of a battle pack in their pockets, their belts and on their person at all times including such “essentials” as pocket first aid kits, tactical flashlights, alternative weapons like pen sabres (knives), police batons and even pants with built in concealment holsters and/or kneepads. This would also include vests designed specifically for concealed carry. In most cases like this the vest allows the user to carry a much larger primary defense pistol (say a full framed Glock, XD, or 1911 without printing on fabric).

Some take more of an approach that could possibly be misconstrued as more laid back, care-free or nonchalant style of personal defense carry. While neither option is wrong, each serve their own purpose. For more information and definition on what EDC is, check out Wikipedia’s Definition on Everyday Carry. If you google it, be sure to spell it out. If you wiki search just “EDC” you’ll get a WHOLE DIFFERENT DEFINITION!

Good post man! Loved seeing the pic of your EDC stuff. You must have forgot about the survival strap because it’s on your wrist all day. Too funny about the front pocket wallet too. That’s how I carry mine, after a lecture from gramps years ago when he worked for Union Electric in St. Louis. Those guys would get held up all the time down there so they all started carrying 2 wallets. Their main in the front pocket, and a dummy wallet in the back pocket.

    P.S. – That knife doesn’t look like a benchmade to me =P

Hahaha, no this one isn’t the Benchmade. And even though I carry it more, I threw in the SOG since we just posted a writeup on it. And you’re right about the Survival Strap, LOL. We were driving out to shoot the CZ tonight and I looked down at my wrist and realized I forgot to add that to the pic!
