Building an AK-47
The title might be a tad misleading as I’m not Will Hayden from Sons of Guns (awesome show by the way) nor do I have aspirations to be. Maybe the term “faux AK-47 Build” or simply “AK-47 Customization” would be a little more accurate of a phrase to describe my intentions. So no, I’m not building one from scratch or from raw materials. I was motivated towards taking a standard AK to a self-guided missile by a friend I met on EDCcentral.com. Shortly after becoming acquainted, some of us persuaded him to post about his AK-47 building obsessions and he did so in a sticky called AK-47 Customization.
Long story short, I’ve always had a bit of a crush on these rifles. The design is simple, basically the GLOCK of assault rifles when it comes down to it. Minimal parts, maximum effectiveness. Sure it’s not always the most accurate, but it’s definitely the most reliable! Before you gung ho American cowboys get pissed because I’m insulting your precious AR 15s just cool your jets. I love them both, with pros and cons to each. Honestly I do. If it makes you feel any better, I’ve owned multiple ARs and even built one from scratch. Happy?
Its been over 2 years since I sold my last AK and have missed it miserably since. Even after 2 years of complete absence, when I got the AK (Romanian WASR 10/63 to be exact) into my shop and locked into my CTK Precision Gun Vise my hands found their way through the disassembly assembly process with such ease I swear I was transported back in time 2 years.

Shown without the bayonet and locked into the CTK Gun Vise and the forend resting on the CTK Pistol Post Add On.
So this is the start. The before pictures, the “PRE BUILD” look before this East European piece of commie genius turns into Western perfection. I’ll think of you while it gets its first workout on the range today.
