Our relationship with Revision started a few months back with our review of the Revision Vipertail Ballistic Sunglasses. Since then we’ve been blown away by the Sawfly Ballistic Military specs and the Hellfly with photochromatic lenses. All of the above are what you would call “ballistic rated” safety spectacles meeting and exceeding regulations put in place for MILITARY eye protection. We haven’t even scratched the surface of the goggles, but maybe someday we’ll get there.
Then, in mid-late July Revision announced an albatross of epic proportion! The ALPHAWING! The Alphawing aviator style sunglasses feature 100% UV protection gradient tint lenses, frames cut from a solid piece of stainless steel and a lightweight “all day” wearable style that would even make Iceman (see Top Gun) weak at the knees. Because of the way the frames are created from a single piece of stainless, the profile is almost completely devoid of unwelcome lines that break up the chic of the design. The only disconnect in the continuity of the frames are on the arms for the purpose of folding up. Also thanks to the way the frame is manufactured is the extreme flexibility that can be found. The frames will flex to the extreme inside and out but as a testament to Revisions design do not bend.
While the Alphawing was created and is manufactured to the same demanding standards as the rest of the Revision Military lineup, it is very different in the sense that they are not ballistically rated. The lenses are still optically perfect with zero distortion, and they are impact resistant even to a point greater than most standard safety glasses can boast. Even above all the highlights and facts we’ve just stated, the real marvel is in the overall weight distribution and heft of the glasses. Most aviators create fatigue and irritation after hours of wear, but the Alphawing are so light and agile you honestly forget they’re planted firmly on your face.
Admittedly I endorse products that meet and exceed expectations, and thus far, each of the 4 styles of eyewear I’ve received from Revision Military have done exactly that. I’m 100% satisfied, and am reminded of the quality and commitment to excellence every time I slide a pair of the frames on. The Alphawing is no exception. Oh, and don’t forget, ALL Revision products are 100% made in the U.S.A.
