Hard to believe we’re not that far off from the first anniversary of our first rifle review, well let alone our first GUN REVIEW we ever did here at Haus of Guns. Since then, the rifle has gone through a name change (From EDGE originally now to AXIS) and even some new looks to the still flaming hot bargain rifle.
Savage has added some extra features including an available camo stock, a stainless finish, the ever-present scope combo and maybe even the most popular, an Axis Youth rifle. The Savage Axis Youth is just shy of four inches shorter than the standard model and adds up to such with a 2″ shorter barrel and 2″ shorter length of pull.
No, the Savage Axis Youth rifle doesn’t have AccuTrigger. The youth model does not have AccuStock. And you can’t get this rifle with a fancy wooden stock. Fortunately, the quality, accuracy, durability and straight up “it works” factor this rifle has helps cancel out the have nots. There aren’t a lot of calibers to choose from, but Savage offers its Axis Youth in the venerable .243 Winchester (incidentally the same caliber our rifle was), and the excellent low recoiling 7mm-08 Remington which is essentially a .308 Winchester in a 7mm (.30 cal = 7.62mm, 7mm = .280 cal = smaller diameter).
Simply put, it’s the same great rifle we reviewed 9 months ago in an overall setup geared just a bit more towards our younger shooters. So take a youngster shooting! Better yet, I know some of you out there are so loaded it wouldn’t be anything to pick up a couple of these bad boys as Christmas gifts for the young people in your life! That said, if they don’t belong to you, be sure and ask their parents to make sure it’s cool you’re buying their kid a GUN! 😉
