The Browning M1918 BAR Automatic Rifle
I wish I was an expert on Browning rifles & designs in general. Truth is beyond the 1911 pistol and the Auto 5 shotgun I’m a novice at best on most of his others AND at even knowing which designs are his. With over 128 gun patents having his name scribbled on them, it’s probably best to let someone else be the expert and I’ll just pick my favorites.
Fortunately for us, out online gun blogging brethren Jay over at Armspost.com happens to be a HUGE John M. Browning fanboy and has a plethora of information regarding the mechanical genius and all of his designs. Whether it be the Browning Hi Power, Winchester Lever Action or the Remington Model 8, Jay walks through a myriad of historic posts covering Browning’s firearm and gun component designs and patents.
With last night’s episode of Top Shot renewing interest in one of the greatest America battle rifles of all time, I figured I’d bring up the Browning BAR in a quasi rifle review, but only in order to point you to Jay’s write up the BAR on his site. And don’t worry about leaving Haus of Guns for information like this. Jay is a trusted friend in the online gun community and an outstanding teacher on Browning designs. You’re in good hands.

My grandfather carried a BAR in WW2! Great writeup as usual Ebbs!
I’m thankful for the service of your grandfather and so many others. He must have been a pretty tough dude if he was assigned the BAR!
First of all, thank you for the kind words!
Secondly, thank you for mentioning John Moses Browning and his outstanding designs, especially the M1918 BAR, his first single-man portable automatic rifle.
All well earned, Jay. You guys have a terrific site.
