New Sig P229 Scorpion – SHOT Show 2012
That’s right folks, SHOT Show just keeps giving and giving! One of the booths I was surprised to spend a good bit of time at was the SIG SAUER booth. I’m not a die hard Sig fan nor will I pretend to be extensively knowledgeable about SIG guns but they do intrigue me and SIG didn’t disappoint at SHOT Show 2012 with numerous new announcements.
An announcement I stumbled upon that caught my eye is the all new Sig P229 Scorpion available in 9mm Luger or .40 Smith & Wesson. The gun features a factory flat dark earth finish (very slick) and some Hogue G-10 Extreme wraparound grips that feel INCREDIBLE in the hand. The P229 Scorpion is the latest edition in the P229 Elite series and is set apart by factory Trijicon Night Sights, and extremely short reset trigger (I verified this by dry firing, with permission) which is apparently 60% shorter than standard P226 pistols with a much faster return and a full beavertail grip which is a nice tip of the hat to the custom 1911s of today.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but this was probably the most comfortable pistol I felt in my hand the entire week of SHOT.
Below is all the specs of the new Sig P229 Scorpion straight from the folks at Sig themselves. I’d love to say I’ll be getting one of these from Sig Sauer for a full handgun review sometime soon, but I’m betting I’ll be doing most of my drooling from afar and through my memories of fondling it for a short period at SHOT Show.

My first issued duty weapon was a Sig 226. I had the option of choosing the 229 but the frame was a touch small for my hands. I agree with you about the Houge grips on these guns. With the plastic grips the gun felt “slippery”; toss on a set of Houge grips to any handgun and it becomes an easy shooter. The 226 in either caliber would be a great concealed carry option for even the smaller shooters.
Great write up and excellent photos! Nice to see real world photos rather than the stock photos on the Sig website. Looks even cooler than I’d first thought.
This would be a great choice for anyone preparing for a 12 month shift overseas. Especially with the threaded barrel option.
Sweet looking gun, if it shoots as good as it looks I will take 4. One for each member of my family!

Got mine in Feb. 2012, GREAT gun, really nicely put together, fit and finish awsome, 500 rounds so far, no failures, hardest thing is finding a goo concealment holster….
@Vinny, a great concealment holster for this firearm is made by Hidden Hybrid Holsters.
Comfortable, they will make a holster for a firearm that has either a X5L GenII Viridin or a C5L. I have one for my P226TACOPS and I can wear it all day in comfort.
Tell the guys I sent ya!
