The first time I had ever fired a .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum was this winter during the Christmas season. I’ve fired my fair share of big bore pistol cartridges including but not limited to the .45 Colt, .44 Magnum and the .460 S&W. But none of them hold a candle to the .500 S&W in the boomstick category. There are bigger rounds out there now, but with popularity the .500 has gained availability in factory ammo as well as reloading components.

Magnum Research created the 10.5″ barreled stainless BFR in .500 S&W that I fired several rounds through. My biggest beef? The grip. I was surprised the recoil was as manageable as it was with the silly old school Colt style grip on it. Because of its girth, getting a good positive grip with one hand let alone two made for an awkward introduction. I’m thinking the .500 S&W I NEED is going to be along the lines of an actual Smith & Wesson Performance Center .500 with a full handed recoil absorbing grip and a recoil friendly custom ported muzzle to help drive the barrel down when fired.

Why do I NEED the .500 S&W? I don’t have to have a reason, that’s why this is the NEED List!

Brother, that is one expensive noise-maker. I’d love to shoot one, but I’ve got a lot of other stuff higher on my ‘need’ list.

I would love to have one of these for hunting. it would be easier for me to carry that a rifle, and I would not have to worry about being under gunned in the woods of the Pacific. because of such a diversity of Large Preditors Mountain cats Bears, or angry Elk it would be all I need
