Via the Guns.com twitter feed this morning…

Instead of a full 90 degree switch which has been the standard on AR-15 pattern rifles since the beginning (including ambidextrous safeties), Guns.com reports that Magpul & Noveske have teamed (Noveske design, Magpul fab) up to shorten that to a 60 degree throw.

Now this is fully opinion based, so take it or leave it, but my hands have always been big enough and my thumbs long enough to fully operate the safety “as is” as fast or reliable as I need to. That AND the fact that the full rotation and satisfying click of the fire select switch gives me confidence in knowing just where the fire position is either fully up or down.

VERTICAL = FIRE, HORIZONTAL = SAFE.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Magpul fanboy and have no problem admitting it because I think their stuff is just plain cool and functional, BUT I prefer to avoid polymer parts where they don’t either work the best or are not completely necessary.

So this begs the question… is SHORTER/FASTER/EASIER always better? Here’s the full rundown with pics from Guns.com.

One Response to New Magpul/Noveske Short Throw Safety Selector

  1. Chris Miller says:

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Especially when it comes to something as serious as muscle memory on a firearm that millions of law enforcement, military and civilians use regularly.
