MFT Battlelink Stock Swap
My AK is basically a Haus of Guns test tube of sorts. It’s constantly got different furniture and gear on it for testing and review purposes. This means at any given moment that I could have a heinous surplus of rifle furniture in my shop waiting for a new home. My family and close (geographical primarily) friends are often the beneficiaries of my constant overflow of goodies.
Thanks to the arrival of an all new AKFX skeleton stock from Ace Limited (review coming soon!) the Battlelink Stock I reviewed back in February for Mission First Tactical has enjoyed a brief hiatus. That is until my bro-in-law showed up with his newish DoubleStar 15 (Another Ace/DoubleStar/JT Distributing shout out) in desperate need of a rear end makeover. It only took 30 seconds, but the flimsy carbine stock was succeeded by the functional and sexy (because MFT has hawt male models AND is MADE IN USA) super tough polymer product from Mission First.
One caveat I’ve failed to notice in the commercial (rather than Milspec) Battlelink stock is how tight it fits to the buffer tube. So tight in fact that seating the stock all the way in against the receiver is nearly impossible and retracting fully to the rear of the tube makes it difficult to return the stock to the middle notches of the tube. Because of my size and the length of my arms and neck I really only use the middle three adjustment notches anyway, but I see how this could be a frustration for others. My instincts tell me some simple DIY mods could prevent this, but it’s my opinion that with higher end priced objects you shouldn’t have to.
Pictures below tell the story going top to bottom…
***WHOOPS! Please excuse the rear sight installed backwards! It was slapped on quick for staging for pics and genius boy here thought it was opposite day.
