IMG_2692Real ones. At fair prices. From the internets.

A couple weeks ago when the price gouging (I know, I know… communist term in a free enterprise, blah, blah, blah.) hit its highest before all semi-automatic rifles of the centerfire kind along with ammo began disappearing off shelves Dan, Caleb and the GunUp.com blogging network crew announced they would be opening their online store. This was earlier than anticipated in light of recent circumstances surrounding aggressive “Gun Control” and “AWB – Assault Weapons Ban” talks.

IMG_2689Editor’s Note: By the way, I realize there’s no such thing as an “Assault Weapon”, so please don’t light me up for mentioning a term the media likes to use to frighten and deceive the uninformed.

I’m not typically one to buy into panic or pressure, but when the wells are drying up you draw water before there is none. I’d been wanting a 5.45x39mm AKM (AK-74) for quite some time, and at the time ammo and even a few Bulgarian magazines were still somewhat available though at an inflated cost so I shot them an email and made sure one of the last few had my name on it.

Here’s the long and short of it and my experience as a customer. I did not receive this rifle for a gun review or for testing and evaluation nor did I receive it for free. I paid Average Joe Sticker Price.

MY GUNUP.COM SHOP STORY

I just got my rifle today. It is a rifle that I will most likely not be doing a review of any sort with as its already been stored away along with the cache of ammo because I’m a slightly paranoid humanoid. But the GunUp online gun shop is the real deal. John in the sales department is working feverishly to continue receiving guns, answer every phone call and email, and see to it that everything is sent out in a timely manner and the customer receives it with a smile.

Don’t believe me? After hearing of my rifle’s departure from the shop I learned that it wasn’t shipped with the customary ONE 30 round magazine, but that a SECOND 30 round “Circle 10″ Bulgarian magazine had made its way into the package. With reputable AK-74 magazines going at $60 a pop ($90+ for Izhmash brand), this was an extremely encouraging gesture of good will.

FLEXING WITH THE TIMES

Now their shop has limited quantities of rifles and handguns which partly is a biproduct of all the buying and secondly a result of having to launch the store early, but all of what they have are desirable products and ALL of their prices meet fair retail before crap hit the fan. Also, their advertised price is THE price. No added sales tax and no charge for FedEx ground shipping to your FFL (Federal Firearms License holder. If you’ve never bought guns online go here to learn how).

Bottom line. GunUp.com/SHOP is filled with honest and hardworking guys grinding hard to make great guns available at the best prices possible. Give them a look and sign up for their updates so you can know when the gun you’re looking for comes into stock.

The only downside is it turns out the rifle comes with a welded on thread collar. So I'll have to knock the welds off and find my own AK-74 style brake.

+1 on everything said above. I purchased an M&P 15 sport right when the frenzy heated up. The price was fair and the service was great! Props to John and his team.

  3. [...] I mentioned that when they opened their gun shop earlier than anticipated I got a fair price on a Saiga AK-74 in 5.45x39mm. Not only did it ship fast and their sales guy is great at responding and being an all around cool [...]
