***UPDATE***: More high res pictures added below!

One of the biggest surprises (for me anyway) was finding out that Neosho, MO custom AR-15 company Black Rain Ordnance is trying their hand at custom CNC machined AK-47/AKM pattern rifles. And a sick rifle it is.

With all components CNC machined from the ground up and re-thought from top to bottom save for basic AK function, the Black Rain AK Prototype dubbed “FREEDOM FIGHTER” is ridiculously accurate at 100 yards (I rang the 1/3 silhouette standing from a Trijicon ACOG with boring routine), reliable, and while rock solid is a bit on the heavy side.

There’s a beveled and flared magazine port with a backstop aiding in fast reloads for righties. The trigger is completely done in house and is scary crisp and light breaking clean in the 4 pound range.

A couple thoughts I’d run with on this seeing as it is a prototype. Since they do it all in house CNC, I would have liked to see a left handed charging system. Then I think I’d slim down the monolithic front rail and get it skinnier so a thumb over bore support hand hold is more feasible.

I loved the Magpul UBR buttstock on a folding hinge and the fluted barrel wears a proprietary custom muzzle break which completely eliminates muzzle climb. The shooting video bears evidence of its sexy smoothness. Here’s hoping when the final model is finished they send Haus of Guns one for a full rifle review!

very interested in this. despite being fully cnc’d it looks a little heavy and too bulky. but the trigger, safe/fire selector, and the magwell look good. id also like to see the charging handle on the left side and since its a prototype custom build perhaps a bolt catch design

  7. Just wanted to let you all know that we are manufacturing semi-automatic rifles, right here, right now, in Arden, North Carolina. It is called the Joshua MK5, the first TRUE hybrid AK-AR, which we think you will love. It will be ready March 2013. We are taking pre-orders. List price? $895.00.  We offer layaway as low as $20.00. Email me at info@amendmentarmsinc.com.  Tom Wise, General Manager. Website: http://www.amendmentarmsinc.blogspot.com. Thank you.

Looks very interesting and intriguing. I am glad it is made in the USA. So it will hopefully create jobs. Plus with the 3D printers, designing should be easier and faster.
I hope it is available this year and not next. Also a folding stock option would be nice. As well as options in the grip department. I can’t wait to get my hands on one.
As I am a collector and really love my AMD 65.Cheers,
