Well they did it. Magpul released their PMAGs for AK pattern rifles and you know what? It is literally just a plain jane PMAG… for AK rifles. Not really much else to say about it other than the fact that after speaking directly with Magpul frontman Doug Smith for 20 minutes or so he did confirm (so from the horses mouth so to speak) that they are working on developing a steel reinforced PMAG for AK rifles. The retail price on the aptly named “PMAG AK MOE” will fall in the $13-$15 dollar range just like their standard non-windowed magazines and retail on the new steel reinforced PMAGs should run just a shade under $30 or so.
Also, I expected to hear, and even asked, that their primary competition in the AK magazine market would be the guys at US Palm making the AK30 magazines, but instead Doug says their primary competition will be the Bulgarian Circle 10 waffle magazines. Interesting tidbit of info there. Expect the MOE AK mags on the market by the end of February and the steel reinforced models in mid-late 2014.
